In need of camera advice...

I currently own a Nikon D3100 and would like to move over to Canon. I am in my final year of a film course at university and think it is time to invest in a decent camera for future videographer/photographer work. I have my mind set on the Canon 70D, I believe this would work well for what I intend to use it for. However, a camera like this has quite a hefty price tag. I would like to know if there are cheaper alternatives to this. If there are no alternatives to this, where would be a good...
